There are some photo sessions that stay with you long after the camera is packed away, and this surprise proposal session at Fort Pickens was absolutely unforgettable!

When he first reached out to me, he had a beautiful plan: a surprise proposal during a couples photo session. We worked together beforehand to plan the timing, location, and details so everything would feel natural and effortless. My role was simple! I was there to capture the moment as it unfolded.

And Fort Pickens turned out to be the most romantic setting imaginable.

The Magic of Fort Pickens State Park

Located inside Fort Pickens State Park in Florida, this historic coastal fort is truly one of the most breathtaking places for photos. The moment you walk through its entrance, you can feel the history and quiet beauty surrounding you!

Imagine wandering through:

• Weathered brick walls filled with character
• Long arched tunnels
• Hidden passageways and rooms
• Soft light filtering through historic corridors

Every turn feels like stepping into a story.

The fort itself sits within Fort Pickens State Park, which also offers beautiful beach access, campgrounds, and scenic coastal views. Entry into the park was $25 for a 7-day pass, making it an incredible place to explore and photograph.

I can confidently say I’ll absolutely be returning to explore with my family, as well as plan more sessions here!

A Perfectly Planned Surprise Proposal

The couple arrived dressed in creams and soft neutral tones, which blended beautifully with the warm colors of the historic brick. Their outfits complemented the location perfectly and gave the entire session a timeless, romantic feel. We began the session like any normal couples photoshoot — walking through the fort, exploring the tunnels, and capturing sweet moments between them.

Then, it was go-time! Underneath the beautiful weathering arches of the fort, he got down on one knee and asked the question.

And she said yes!   Her reaction was pure joy and complete surprise. You could feel the emotion in the air! Excitement, happiness, and the beginning of a brand-new chapter together.

These are the moments I chase after in my photography. The raw, real emotion. I LOVE it.
